Houston Baptist University

Houston Baptist University (HBU) is a private Christian university located in Southwest Houston, Texas. Founded in 1960, HBU is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas and offers over 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The university has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students from across the United States and around the world.

HBU’s mission is to “provide an academically challenging education from a biblical worldview to equip students for lifelong learning, leadership and service in a global society.” The university’s core values are faith, learning, service and community. HBU prides itself on its commitment to providing a quality education in an environment that promotes spiritual growth and development.

HBU offers a variety of academic programs including business, education, engineering, humanities and sciences, nursing and health sciences, psychology, social work and theology. The university also offers several dual degree programs that allow students to earn two degrees simultaneously such as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing/Master of Science in Nursing or a Bachelor of Business Administration/Master of Business Administration. In addition to its traditional academic programs, HBU also offers online degree programs for those who prefer distance learning.

The campus is home to several student organizations such as the Student Government Association (SGA), Student Life Council (SLC), Residence Hall Association (RHA) and Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF). These organizations provide students with opportunities to get involved on campus through social activities, community service projects and leadership roles.

HBU also has numerous athletic teams that compete at the NCAA Division I level including men's basketball, baseball and golf; women's basketball, softball and soccer; co-ed cheerleading; men's cross country; women's volleyball; men's tennis; women's track & field; men's lacrosse; women's swimming & diving; men's rugby; women's rowing; men's soccer; women’s sand volleyball; men’s golf team; co-ed rifle team.

The university provides numerous resources for its students including career services which help students explore career options after graduation or during their time at HBU. The Office of Student Life provides support for student clubs & organizations as well as recreational activities such as intramural sports teams or outdoor adventures like canoeing or rock climbing trips. Additionally, HBU has an extensive library with over 500K volumes available both online and in physical form along with study spaces for individual or group work sessions.
