Houghton College

Houghton College is a private Christian college located in Houghton, New York. Founded in 1883, it is the oldest institution of higher learning in the region. The college has been affiliated with the Wesleyan Church since its founding. Houghton offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of fields, including business, education, music, science and theology.

Houghton College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and has been ranked as one of America's Best Colleges by U.S. News & World Report for several years running. The college boasts a student-faculty ratio of 13:1 and an average class size of 16 students.

The campus itself is situated on over 400 acres of land and includes a wide range of facilities such as residence halls, academic buildings, athletic fields, an auditorium and a library with over 200,000 volumes. The college also offers a variety of student activities including clubs, intramural sports teams and service opportunities through its Center for Service Learning.

Houghton's academic offerings include more than 50 majors and minors across four schools: Arts & Sciences; Business & Technology; Education; and Theology & Ministry. These schools offer courses that are designed to help students develop critical thinking skills as well as practical knowledge for their chosen field of study.

In addition to its academic programs, Houghton College also has several student organizations available to join including honor societies, religious groups and performing arts organizations such as the Houghton College Choir or Concert Band. The college also runs an outdoor recreation program that provides students with access to camping trips, hiking trails and other outdoor activities throughout the year.
