Why not a Christian College?

28/03/2008

Blog:  Many people ask, why should I choose a Christian College versus a well established liberal arts college or university?  My answer to you would be, why not choose a Christian College?  I graduated from a Christian College, and I am thankful for it.  I am thankful for learning how to ingegrate my faith with my daily calling.  The college years are such a pivotal time in the life of any young adult.  Should I get married?  What am I going to do with my life?  Can my major make me money?  Among some other questions...

What better time to help college age adults to engage the culture with a Biblical framework.  For example, in the business world, ethics, discrimination, and sexual harrassment are major issues to a balanced working environment.  Imagine approaching these day to day issues with a Christian Worldview as oppose to Post-modern Worldview that says obey the rules, but if you break them, make sure you don't get caught.  The light of Christ needs to be in the law courts, hospitals, board meetings, schools, and corporations.  The result would be not only a morally sound society but a society that seeks to uphold the glory of God in every aspect of life.  Now that is what I call, heaven on earth!

Bible Christian College or Business School

25/03/2008

Ever since I become a Christian and have had a dilemma. On one hand I wanted to be a pastor and serve the Lord full time, on the other hand I wanted to show all my non-Christian  relatives that I was motivated and skilled enough to be successful in the real world. The question is what is the calling for my life, and what should have been the right education to receive.

I ended up combining my education courses and actually took classes in business as well as biblical studies. Right after college I went into business, and as I have wanted, I have become very successful rising in my career faster than any of my college classmates. However, as my 30th birthday comes, the question is coming: how do I fill my calling to Christian ministry? Should I now give up my career and become a full time minister, or is there a way that I can combine my career pursuits with serving God.

I put this as an open question, and would like to know if anybody has an piece of advice for me.

Chrstian Bible College Decision: how to find the right Christian Bible College

20/03/2008

The scenario is almost stereotypical: You go through you crazy teenage teens until one day your friends invites you the local youth group meeting where you get radically saved. All of the sudden you want to rock for Christ. You are radical, young and enthusiastic. You want to do all the great things for Christ that you read in the Book of Acts. After you went to talk to you pastor about your passions, he points you out that if really want to dedicate your life to full time ministry, and it might me a good idea to get some formal education: Go to Bible College.

What are the criteria that one should consider whey choosing the right Bible College? Is going to Bible College really the best decision that you can make? What are the Bible colleges out there to consider? Am I really called to full time ministry, and is Bible education going to help to feed my family? These are all really good questions to ask before you begin your college search.

While there are without a doubt some that will graduate with Bible degrees and go to full time ministry, there are others who seek Bible education only to farther increase their Biblical knowledge. In another words, receiving a degree does not serve their career but just their spiritual growth. On such a case one should seriously consider having a double major or even career oriented major, while still combining the course schedule with extensive bible classes. As believers in Christ, we are not only called to know the word of God, but also provide for our families, and be excellent in whatever we do.

Choosing the right College is a great responsibility which will affect the rest of your life. You will meet some life long friends at your college campus, who knows who may even meet your spouse. Thus factors, such as size, location, or denominational affiliation matter greatly at this decision making process. While closely denomination affiliated usually provide smaller and more personal environment, college that focus on attracting students from variety of different denomination can provide a good intellectual challenge.

Ethical and international diversity ad Christian Colleges is often a challenge as private institutions often do not have the funding for students without the ability to take on student lone, or work while going to college. Yet have a good percentage of international students on campus is priceless benefit to a student who is learning about global world we live in.
